Job trends in the next 5 years:- [1] Startup salaries are going to decline: Most startups have started to realise that they need to control the profits, not just revenues. Many unicorns who were on track to their IPO had to delay their IPOs. Reason: lack of profitability. Over-hiring and over-paying is going to decline. [2] Most CEOs would have a personal brand: All smart CEOs have started to focus on their personal brands. This is evident on Linkedin as well. People like to buy from people, not from companies. Therefore, almost every 'Shark' now feature on their own advertisement. Why? personal brand. Take a cue and start cultivating your personal brand as well. [3] Parallel jobs: Gone are the days when you could depend on 1 job. Firms are not loyal to you. And, any smart employee can see through this. If you are not building backups already, you are doing yourself a disservice. And, the volatile job market is might one day hit you badly. [4] Rise of remote jobs: To cut the long story short, if work could be done from home, why would you waste your time, effort, energy travelling? Not every job fits into 'work from home' culture, but many do. Video editing, graphic designing, virtual assistants, digital marketing based jobs are going to make more money. People are going to increasingly pick these skills. [5] People would increasingly prefer to own small businesses: AirBnBs/Holiday rentals Opening digital storesLaunching digital products Are all examples of small businesses. With the rise of financial & career education, most people would prefer decent money + family time (OVER) crazy money + no time. And owning small businesses is one way of fulfilling this goal. Let me know in comments what other trends you are seeing.

These Options will save at least 50% of the time during "tf apply":When you work with a large infrastructure stack applying the immutable changes will take a lot of time. Here are a few things we've tried in our large-scale projects? Using Terraform Workspaces: Workspaces allow you to maintain multiple versions of your infrastructure. By creating a new workspace for each environment (e.g., dev, staging, prod), you can limit the number of resources that Terraform needs to create/modify on each apply.? Parallelize Resource Creation: By default, Terraform applies resources sequentially. However, you can configure it to create multiple resources in parallel by specifying a "max_parallelism" value in your terraform.tfvars file.? Use Terraform Modules: Modules are reusable blocks of Terraform configuration that can be used to create complex infrastructure. By using modules, you can avoid duplicating code and reduce the number of resources that Terraform needs to create/modify on each apply.? Optimize Provider Configuration: If you're using multiple providers in your Terraform configuration, make sure you're only configuring the ones you actually need. You can also configure providers to use connection pooling, which can help speed up resource creation. These are just a few tips to help you reduce the time it takes for terraform apply to complete. Kindness often has a ripple effect that extends far beyond its initial act. When we choose to be kind to others, it creates a positive impact that can influence those around us, leading to a chain reaction of goodwill. If we focus on spreading kindness in our community, we can watch as it multiplies, making the world a better place. Together, we can create a wave of positivity that will leave a lasting impression .#kindnessmatters#positivity#communityimpact#rippleeffect#onedrop#iscjobs#annzaslowrethaber

I need your help. My company, The Cru, is a Silicon Valley Bank customer. If you haven't heard the news, the bank has collapsed within the last 72 hours, leaving many startup companies in turmoil. My life's work is advancing women and girls. It's why I'm on the planet. The Cru matches women in accountability circles to help them meet their goals. 92% of our members feel The Cru has helped them to realize their life intentions - from earning a raise to securing a home loan. I'm incredibly proud of what we're building and I'm asking you to become a part of it. Please contribute to our crowdfunding campaign, which we launched for Women's History Month, and share this post. Here's the link to invest: republic.com/the-cruIf you know a startup founder reach out to them to offer support. If it's a Black woman founder, put her on speed dial. Of the billions of venture capital doled out to startups, less than 1% goes to Black women. It's hard enough to execute and fund a vision you believe will change the world. We hustle so hard for our customers, our employees, our investors and our families. This bank crisis is testing my resiliency. Please invest. If you don't have money to invest, please post a pep talk. I could really use that right now too. This morning I was crying in an airport bathroom. ?Invest in The Cru. Make Women's History.#womenshistorymonth #startups #findyourcru

The evolution of college education has been a long and winding road. From the early days of higher education in the Middle Ages, when universities were founded to provide advanced education to the elite, to today's modern universities, college education has changed dramatically. In the past, college was a privilege reserved for the wealthy and the privileged, but today, college education is available to a much broader range of people. Advances in technology and the proliferation of online learning have made college more accessible than ever before. In addition, the cost of college has decreased, making it more affordable for many. With more options available, students can now choose the college and degree program that best fits their needs and goals. As college education continues to evolve, it is likely that more opportunities will become available, making college an even more attractive option for those looking to further their education.Written with ParagraphAI.

We all make mistakes from time to time, it’s part of a being human, however how we recover from our mistakes is how others remember us. As leaders we have choices in how we own and acknowledge our mistakes. 1️⃣ ignore that we made a mistake - this is okay if you are giving a talk and forgot a line… but not if you misled your team. ?2️⃣ acknowledge the mistake when you discover it and take responsibility for it. Mistakes are learning opportunities for all, by owning yours you are showing your team that it’s okay for them to own theirs. ?This is a boss thought leader move!!The next one is similar to 2 above, however it adds an important dimension. 3️⃣ own that the mistake was yours, acknowledge it’s impact and develop a new system or process that includes others who oversee the risky elements. This show everyone that even as leaders we need others to help us succeed. This is true thought leader behaviour. ⚡️??By combining our emotional connection and influence with our teams to our confidence in our skills and knowledge, even when we mess up ? (because we all do!) we are demonstrating true thought leadership. In the comments, share a story about how you chose to deal with a mistake, we’d all love to learn from you. ???? #leadership #thoughtleader #failforward #learning #opportunities

Right from my birth process, my mother, mother's gynecologist to till date, my boss all have been women. Someone taught me how to clean nose, how to tie shoelaces, how to walk on my feets; like I walked on my knees for a long time. How to be a good anchor, a good coder, a noble man, a good friend, a good community member, a good boyfriend, a good colleague and a good servant to the society was all taught to me by women. Moreover, in our Indian culture, we treat the energy of universe, the life of universe as that of possessed by some superwomen.✏️ #career #share #community #energy #culture #like #society

Be the Sr you needed when you were a Jr. We all started out as juniors. Little knowledge, lots of insecurities, and trying to cover them up. We all learned from more experienced folks. Now that we've been through that, now that we have the knowledge and the experience, it's our turn to teach those who need it today. It's something we owe to each other. We didn't get to where we are by ourselves. We were taught, we were helped, and we were lifted. Time to lift others. We stood on the shoulders of giants. Now that we're the giants, it's time to let others stand on our shoulders. You don't need to be a senior to teach someone, but I believe you need to teach someone to be a senior.

The user doesn't care if we write bad code. That's on us to fix, or to pay the consequences. A few truths: - The user doesn't perceive code quality, at all. - Code quality is the main factor in software maintenance costs - Software maintenance costs are several orders of magnitude larger than initial development costs - The user doesn't perceive our costs I guess that could be an argument in favor of writing bad code. I mean, does anyone truly care? We do. That's why we set up practices like DevOps, TDD, automated tests, infrastructure as code, CI/CD. Nobody's ever going to tell you "hey, you reduced maintenance costs by 100x". But you should still do it. That's what makes an engineer great.

AWS horror story in 5 words: Access keys shared on GitHub. A few ways to protect against this: - Don't share access keys on GitHub ?♂️. - Don't even use credentials. Backend dev: Frontend is easy. Also backend dev: - How do I center a div? - I forgot which color I used for the other button, but this one looks pretty similar - What do you mean Comic Sans is not a good font? To a backend dev, frontend can be like a book: You can read it end to end, you're very likely to understand 95% of it, and you can write a few sentences. But you're so, so far away from being able to write all of it from scratch. And it's even worse for cloud engineers! It's like they're running as far away from frontend as they can. Some actually are. Thank you, Frontend folks, for doing the stuff we don't like. You're our heroes.

Today I've seen better days. Which is code for "I'm not alright". Why is that so hard to say?Today tears don't let me focus on what's ahead. The fears keep me rooted on a dream that is not coming, as I wait for it to come while I delude myself into thinking I'm chasing it.Today everything aches, and I'm afraid to remove those aches. Am I afraid to heal?Today I'm still here. Still moving. Still trying. Still dreaming. Today I'm still me, in spite of everything. And I still like who I am. In spite of everything. I hope you're alright. And if you're not, I hope you're strong and kind to yourself. And if you're not, send me a message.

Be kind to yourself, and give yourself time to learn and time to grow. We all sucked when we started, and we still stuck at a ton of things! Things change so fast. A new library, a new framework, a new language... And we all suck at a new thing. But we practice a bit, and we suck a little bit less. And we keep practicing, until we don't suck. Then a new thing comes out, and we suck at it. That's the life of a software engineer. Constant sucking, and constant learning. That's what we all signed up for. I hope you love it. Cause I do.

AWS horror story in 6 words: All data in S3 is public. Here's how to properly set up an S3 bucket: - Don't make it public - Set up an IAM Role for your app. You set it up on your EC2 instance, Lambda function, ECS task, etc. - In the bucket policy, allow access only from that role - If you're accessing from a VPC (if you're using EC2, ECS, EKS), set up a VPC interface endpoint, so the connection goes through AWS's internal network and not the internet (faster, cheaper, more secure). - If you're accessing from CloudFront, set up Origin Access Control. "Data is the new oil". Would you leave your oil lying around in the public internet? Do you really want everyone to read your oil? Ok, maybe I broke the oil analogy. But that doesn't mean you should break your users' trust by leaving their data in a public S3 bucket.

Want a cheap AND good AWS architecture? - React/Vue/Svelte app on an S3 Bucket - Lambda functions (Node or Python) - Auth with Cognito using Amplify - DynamoDB to store data - Cloudfront as a CDN Pretty much free tier on low traffic, and scales really well. So, what does an AWS architect do, if you can just do that? Basically, tell you: - When that architecture is a good idea - When it's not such a great idea - What mistakes to avoid - How to secure it - Optimize costs - Best practices - Fine details - Next steps How? By asking the right questions.

If you want to reach the clouds, you've got to stand on the shoulders of giants! And when you become a giant yourself, help others stand on your shoulders. This is the way.

A developer's greatest skill: Googling how to solve a problem. An architect's greatest skill: Asking questions to figure out what's the actual problem. Great solutions are only great if they're solving the problems you actually have. Or you can waste months and tens of thousands of dollars overengineering a solution that you never even needed, to a problem you never even had. Users don't look at the code, do they? Are you building your solution for your developers? Or for your users?

Yesterday was my 6th year anniversary with Servion, and I am happy for achieving this milestone as UC Consultant for CCaaS projects. Sadly my company informed me that by the end of this month, they are closing our UK office, shutting down the Business Unit, and making us all redundant! Shocked at first, and upset for this really short notice! I have to move on and I am looking for a Career Shift into cloud as #solutionsarchitect, AWS certified (Dec 2019). Almost all my skills are transferable for this role and I am confident that within a very short time I will be able to deliver cloud solutions to new customers. Open to discussing any options, I am happy to take any training or new certification required for the role, as I have done in the pass as per the job demands, check my profile. I Welcome messages from recruiters or people from my network about new permanent positions in Cardiff or Remote from UK for this role. Please feel free to reach me via chat PM or via email for any questions you might have that can lead to a successful job offer.Thanks,Juan.
